Designing for ECommerce
5 October 08 - Back
In my spare time for the past few weeks I have been looking at creating an Ecommerce solution. Preferably using a free open-source package, using PHP and MySQL. After some investigation osCommerce seemed to be the most popular, with a claim to have over 13,000 live shops. For this reason I decided to make this my choice. I soon found that the sites to be table structured compared to CSS and changing the look of the site would be a long winded process. I decided to take another look at some other options. I was then recommended ZenCart. ZenCart is based from osCommerce but more secure and more up-to-date. I am currently half way through a book I bought on ZenCart called – Zen Cart E-commerce Application Development. So far I think I will stick with Zen-Cart. It seems to meet all my needs and more.
Below are a list of alternative E-commerce sites.
InterspireMagento
Ubercart
Mals-ecommerce
AgoraCart
Cube cart
X-cart
oscommerce
Zen cart
